Our PC has suddenly started coming up with a message saying that Windows is not genuine and that we may be the victim of counterfeiting. We are also experiencing problems turning the pc off. Windows was pre-loaded when we bought the pc from Tiny just over 5 years ago.

Does anyone have any ideas how we sort the problem.

Thanks for any help.

There are 2 ways one legal and one not !

First way shell out 90+ for a legal windows key and you may want to ask Tiny what the hell is going on too.

Second,if you want to post your email address then a solution may arrive like magic ;-)

According to the register, once it has downloaded this update it "phones home" every day and records the ip address and to check it again.

Hi Mattk

can you send details to me please?

many thanks

Mattk, give us a clue or a web link?

Thanks (a couple of friends have the same problem). Apart from re-installing with a 'genuine' key, are you advocating a change to the registry? Can it be done without re-installing XP?

I think someone else had the problem on a legal copy - I've just seen it on a brand new (legal) NEC system!!!

Hello have you all managed to fix this yet ? if not i might be able to help
