What does the 'VG' stand for in the term 'VG Store' i.e the local convenience store chain.

I'm sure I remember the original name was 'Very Good' but I am dredging my memory here, and will be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

something from the dim and distant past tells me this stands for Value Grocers but i can't confirm this. I'll try and check up for you.

It actually stood for Voluntary Group. Quite literally a bulk buying symbol and promotions group which small, independent retailers could join in a voluntary basis in order to buy at lower wholesale prices, stock VG branded products and take part in regular promotions
