Beautiful Bird
10 Answers
I'm used to the usual garden birds, sparrows, tits, blackbirds, thrushes, robins and even the occasional woodpecker. However this morning there was the most beautiful bullfinch sitting on the fence. Do hope he stays around.

But we had an amazing experience the other night, which had I not witnessed it I would have not believed. We know we have three young owls in the garden because we hear them every night, but we have been undecided as to what type they are. They sit in the trees at the back.
We happened to see a torch light out the front and went to investigate but it was only our farmer neighbour. We asked him what he thought they were. "Dunno", he said "Let's see". He started making some sort of whistling noise and within a few minutes these three birds were all at the front. Then one swooped down right over him. They are barn owls. But wow! He's a proper Dr Doolittle!! (Apparently, the noise he was making was the sound of a dying rabbit!)

I find the regular 4 or 5 bullfinches that visit the bird feeders are greedy little bullies! We have 2 pairs and one offspring - male. They sit in the feed trays and see off other would be diners. I often have to shoo them off to give the other finches, tits and robins a chance. They soon come back.
