why indeed, TTT? And yet very few of them seem to weigh 20 stone when they're 16. Every pound they put on after that is all their own work. (I know this from personal experience.)

I don't have any problem with Maggie using the phrase big fat one but I would like to understand why those posting so vehemently about the disgraceful racism on the football thread aren't equally up in arms about this abuse. I can only conclude that it's quite OK to be rude about anyone's appearance or character as long as they are not 'of colour'?

pixie, yes that is the basic equation and it's simple enough but it's far from simple for many to implement. I think it's too simplistic to say people choose to be fat. Ask anyone even remotely over weight if it's their choice. No one is fat by choice.

My sister and her daughter are obese....bad food choices in their case. They aren't happy, they pretend to be but they aren't.

jno - most obese people overeat. (Put on a bit myself over the last year, but it's going.) I did know, however a very rotund, 'Billy Bunter' of a chap whose condition was glandular (he was under the care of a hospital).

Personally, my 11-yr-old grandson appalled me when I saw him after a year, a couple of months ago. He'd gone from rounded/on the plump side - but it would go when he grew - to a definite Billy Bunter. Even the lips were puffy. He was bursting out of his clothes.

Quandary, what can I do? I served a lovely, salady lunch and didn't mention it. I have to leave it to his mum, who said 'airily' that 'lockdown hadn't been kind' to him.

I'm considering giving him a Billy Bunter omnibus for Christmas!
