With regard to the point about threads that appear to be reaching a natural end, but are closed - in my experience that have tended to be threads where two or more people are simply spinning their wheels at each other, and going nowhere.

I know - I have been involved in more of them that I am pleased to admit to!!

A fair point, but speaking personally, I can get drawn into an utterly pointless and immature series of exchanges with people before I have really noticed that it's going on.

A human foible that I guess some, and I do absolutely include myself here, are prone to.
