Hi. I have a painful blocked ear and painful neck . No fever. I've tried Olive oil drops and Audioclean solution no help. I dont think its trapped wax although im not sure. It feels a bit inflamed. My G.P does not syringe ears and getting an appointment is impossible. Any suggestions what I may be and what I can do or buy to help?

You have what is known as Otitis External or more commonly "Swimmer's Ear".....it is an infection inthe outer ear. Go tothe Pharmacist in the morning and buy eardrums called Gentisone H.C. Lie with your bad ear uppermost and fill your ear with the drops and keep that position for 5 mins. Then wipe the outside of your ear and go about your business. Do that twice...

Whereabouts in your neck is the pain, do any of your glands feel swollen and how long as this been going on for?

They might not do syringing but, if you need to be seen, they can take a look in to your ear to see if they can see what the problem is.
it could be sinus and not ear....might be worth trying a beconase nasal spray, also sterimar

Do that twice daily.
^I think you'll find that the above medication was "prescription only"...and is,however, discontinued. "Earcalm" is usually recommended now (but I am neither a doctor or pharmacist!)
// Gentisone HC (Gentamicin 0.3% w/v and Hydrocortisone acetate 1% w/v) Ear Drops - Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) by ... POM: Prescription only medicine.//

oops yes looks like it
Earcalm is useless and I cannot believe gentisone h.c drops have been discontinued.
Only alternative is to try the pharmacist in if it has been discontinued then phone your practice.
Is Otomize spray similar? I'm sure that's what I was given by a GP after you recommended gentisone drops, was a while back now though.
Good point Eve......Otomize would be quite satisfactory as an alternative.
