I've put this in a new post a) as a caution against accepting letters given, and b) to share my favourite example of this with a wider audience:
'Clue is a climbing hazard. I've got e?e?h?n? Think it's ELEPHANT'
I'm not laughing at the enquirer per se, but I chuckled all day at the mental picture of an elephant crouched behind a boulder leaping out to trumpet at unwary mountaineers.

I don't know where this came from, but surely the elephant wasn't hiding behind a boulder, but rather was peering over the edge of an overhang preparing to repel all!
