Burning a music CD

I am trying to make a music CD that will play on my Hi-Fi, it is an older type that will not read MP3 files. I understand that I have to convert the MP3 file to WAV and I have done this using a program called CDEX. However, when I try and play the CD, although the player appears to be playing the track, no sound comes through the speakers. Anybody any ideas?

possibly you are using the wrong kind of cd. i can only use CDR (which is ok with me ) but i couldnt do anything wirh a CD-RW.

The type of CD is a CD-R. I have been told that CD-RW are not good enough fo audio CD's.

It's not that they're not good enough, it's just that they're made differently and it's harder for the laser in the hifi player to read the tracks, so they often don't.

Do you have windows media player, nero or iTunes on your computer? All will burn a music CD for you. If you have iTunes (or want to download it for free), then just add the songs you want on the CD into a new playlist and click the burn button. Before you do that though, check in the preferences to make sure it's set to burn an audio disc.

I think you misunderstand me. I am able to burn the CD OK using Nero, its the format of the audio file that I think is the problem. I have used CDEX to convert MP3 to WAV before on a previous PC with no problem but this time it doesn't appear to work.

cant windows do it for you? i usually just right click the mp3s i want and click send to - cd rewriter, then when i go into the drive the mp3s are in a ghost form, and i clink "burn to cd" or something in the top right corner, windows then brings up a wizard which asks to name the cd then asks if i want to be able to play the cd on a cd player or the second choice is to play the cd on the pc and some cd players, i usually just burn for the pc and some cd players but i always though the other option would burn the mp3s in a wav format, and therefore meaning you wouldnt have to bother with the whole converting thing yourself

That's my point. You should be able to just tell it what mp3 files, or whatever, you want created as an audio Cd, and it'll do all the correct conversion etc. for you. iTunes does this, as does Nero. Just choose to burn an Audio CD in the menu, and drag your mp3s in.

To All - Thanks for your replies to my problem. I tried using Window Media Player to convert the MP3 tracks into WAV and success, it worked a treat. I was totally unaware that it had that capability, I had previously just used it to play music on the computer. Once again thanks to all who replied.
