The Brothers moved from the East to California in 1935 to set up a restaurant business.
In 1948 they redesigned the business to the McDonalds style restaurant we would recognise (pre-wrapped food, no cutlery). At first this was not popular with their original older customers, but over the next couple of years a younger customer base was drawn to their restaurant. By 1950 they were advertising "Over 1 million hamburgers sold!". In 1952 Ray Kroc joined the business and began the expansion of the business, eventually buying the business from the original brothers.
