shallow hal - huge contradiction and very shallow...?
5 Answers
this film says that its inner beauty that counts, and its a message to all not to be shallow....
great message!!
yeah...so how come the "inner beauty" inside all these apparently ugly girls is simply that the girls are pretty!
i don't get that!
as though saying that THE physical representation of a good kind great person, manifests itself as common or garden prettiness.
saying someone is beautiful on the inside is about them being a wonderful amazing person, not about prettiness - thats the whole flaming point of the film - isn't it?
so why make him see generically pretty girls everywhere?
i liked the film, it was funny, but i think they got the "message" rather skew-whiff...

So perhaps you should consult a better volume than "The Bumper Book of Amateur Psychology for ages 3 and Up" for more genius insights.
But I HAVE to ask...do you have a personality problem?
Actually, don't bother to answer that...it's pretty obvious really.
The question is actually what is known as "just an observation".
Here's another...Don't try to be a smartarse...you're really not very good at it...

i think the film was trying to show how easy people can be put off getting to know someone by what they look like. If they see someone physically attractive they are more likely to be interested in getting to know them (we are all guilty of it, whether we like to admit it or not!)
and once you get to know the 'inner person' you do actually see them in a different way. you see their inner beauty shine thru.
but i can't imagine it's easy showing a 'beautiful souls' physically on film, other than showing them as good looking.

thats true nummy, i realise they are limited by film etc and as you say they have just had to do the most obvious interpretation.
i also noticed they made the "ugly" girls, nervous, geeky, weird and dumb too.
the "beautiful ones" were also over glamourous and sexy as opposed to pretty and beautiful...if you take my meaning.
i just though that it kind of sent the opposite meaning to the one they were trying to go for, which is a shame because its quite an important issue.
