Alright I know it is fictional but how would it ever run in real life ?. No one has a really well paid job but the amount they spend in The Rovers and Roys Rolls and wherever they are always eating out and taxis etc..rent, mortgage, phone bills, utilities, council tax, holidays. It just can't be done. Also Gail is hardly ever at work, Deirdie is hardly ever at work,Charlie carries the same bits around on his lorry, Jason is never actually doing anything so why does Charlie pay him ? Betty keeps saying she is rushed off her feet but the pub is almost empty. Could any Economist explain the "cash flow thing" around Wetherfield ? or is it just me who can't accept it.

My Wife and I used to run a pub, if half the customers had spoken to us the way they talk to the Staff in the Rovers. They would have been barred. But I agree with you as regards all the money they spend in the outlets.
This annoys me in Eastenders too - they go to the cafe for a cup of tea when their kitchen is 2 yards away ??????? And does no-one have a washing machine ?? Are there no Asda/Tesco supermarkets nearby so they don't have to buy bottles of wine at an inflated price from the Queen Vic ????????
I was thinking the same thing with regards to washing machines in eastenders. I mean most people nowadays have them in their homes but apparently not in the square!?
I don`t know about all areas, but it does seem to me that it`s the people who don`t work go out a lot etc. If no body in the soaps used the cafes, launderette & pubs that would be less characters in the soaps.
