Played pinball infrequently as I couldn’t afford the sixpences. Shove h’penny many a night at our once local.

I was absolutely hooked on pinball when I was a student, Every day after any morning lectures I went down to the games room and had 4 games for 20p. Multiple replays was the goal and remember my favourite machine was called Drop a Card. There really was some degree of skill required.

I suspect the beginning of the end for pinball machines was when they wheeled in those new Space Invaders machines.

I think my nickname was 'Tilt'. At least, that's the word that appeared each time i played the game.

No, because I was one of them!

A friend and I would play "World Fair" in a local cafe for hours. The proprietor used to think we were piling money in all day long but in fact it was rare for us to need more than one sixpence to remain playing. You would get a reply if you exceeded a certain score (1,500 I think) but more lucrative were the "Special when lit" targets. It was easy to get three or four replays from a single game. The problem was the reply meter only went up to 15, so that was the most you could keep in hand.
