I am sure there will be folk who say either or neither. But what is best for a good old fashioned mucky weekend, fish and chips on the seafront, a few ales and maybe a disco?

For that kind of weekend I'd suggest Weymouth (old fashioned seaside town, beautiful beach). It's just about tacky enough without being over the top.

Whilstable in Kent for eg

Barmouth in wales.

Weymouth in Dorset.

Personally i'd choose Blackpool for all that but i'd check my prospective partners arms for puncture marks before i took her under the Central Pier:-J

For me (personally) it’d be brighton. Too busy for my taste but a lovely young vibe. Never really seen any trouble around there either (tho I’m sure it happens…. Alcohol n young egos not a good combo)

I went to Blackpool once with my parents for a holiday. I was 12 but can't remember much about it other than the tower and getting on a tram.

Brighton and Hove is more in my neck of the woods. Used to go there for day trip when I was a kid and picnicked on a hill called Devils Dyke.
