I just whent to the orthadonist to get my retainers fitted and they put these metal plates in your mouth to measure how big your retainers will be. Since they are metal im pretty sure they wash and re use them. When she took the first one out of my mouth, there was a little piece of something in my mouth so I think whoever washed it didn't wash it good enough. Its nasty because that was in someone else's mouth I think. I didnt say anything at the time because I didn't want to sound like I was complaining or seem like a jerk. Should I call and tell them? What should I say to sound as nice as possible?

Are you sure there was not a soft material in the mold to make an impression of your teeth. This mold would be sent to have the retainers made. What was in your mouth was probably some of the material that was stuck to a tooth
Question Author
This was before the put the mixture in it to make the mold.
Call them if its concerning you as it clearley is. Theres probly a simple explanation but at least your mind may be put at rest
Maybe you hadn't brushed your teeth before you went and the mold dislodged some food from your teeth
Question Author
I brushed my teeth before I went.

I just dont want to be a bad person and say nothing in case they arent cleaning them good enough or something
I would be astonished to discover that the plates hadn't been sterilised between uses and think it most unlikely.

Equally, it would have been far more helpful if you had mentioned it while you were in the chair then they could have seen the offending item.

Let it drop.
No the molds are cleaned before use
and the plastic stuff isnt reused either

Forget it. Move on.
