I've seen a worktop I would like to order from B&Q (please see link) but it's unavailable for delivery!
I've just phoned them and managed to get through to someone who was obviously reading from a piece of paper, as every question I asked was met with the same reply which basically was, we don't deliver but she couldn't tell me why.
How do they expect you to buy large items if you don't have a van or know someone who does?
Just wondered if anyone else has come across this and perhaps know why they don't deliver?

Do they deliver anything from their stores? Maybe their delivery vans are single manned & this would be too big/heavy for one person to handle safely.

I worked briefly at their kitchen depot at Burton - complete kitchens are palletised & delivered by a big truck.
You hire a man and van. I find Facebook good for that sort of thing although I could get that in my hatchback car with the back seat and passenger seat down

Really barry. Do you mind if I ask which car you drive?
Question Author
davebro Yes they offer delivery on other worktops but they're not the one I want.
They get very bad reviews for deliveries anyway - one & half stars on trust pilot with many saying it should be zero stars.
that ebay item is a lot more expensive Barry.
It seems bizarre that B&Q deliver other worktops but not that one. Phone again and ask to speak to the manager.
Question Author
barry, thanks for the link, but that worktop isn't the right length or thickness. My daughters have bigger cars than mine, so I will ask them to measure the inside to see if it will fit. Thanks dave and barry.
Question Author
I want to go to B&Q to look at it anyway, so I will ask the manager in the store. Or, they may have something similar that isn't shown online that they do deliver.
i once bought a heater/ fireplace, its the type that has fake coal in it, for the living room. they delivered it to down stairs, the driver said they wouldn't deliver to my door, so i had to lug it up 4 flights of stairs. so it doesn't surprise me if they don't deliver.
Question Author
emmie, they do deliver other worktops, but not this one.
I'm glad I read this as I was about to order a shed from B&Q to be delivered and constructed by them. Think I'll find another company.
Question Author
ladybirder, they might do that, but for some reason they don't deliver the worktop I wanted.
I think I would use a local firm for a shed - much easier to deal with if there are problems.
My sister works for Homebase, and someone ordered a garden shed. For whatever reason Homebase couldn't get the shed onto their delivery van. The shed was delivered by hand in the rain. The video is on YouTube and I can vouch 100% that it is not a wind-up. So maybe you should try them, Barsel?
Question Author

I'm surprised it was still in one piece when it arrived!
I wonder how far those poor men had to walk with it.
Don't think I'll be using Homebase. :-)
do you know somebody with a trailer - that would help
