I’m in the market for a new kindle and am wondering which one to get.
I’m favouring the very basic one although the paperwhite was my first thought until I realised the basic also has a built in light, which is a feature I definitely want.
Does anyone have both, or at least tried both? Is the extra cost worth it for a paperwhite as it seems the only extra feature is that it’s waterproof which is not something I need.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Hmmm, am in a quandary now..
I too have the paper white and can recommend it. I too have a kindle fire which is good for internet use.

Decided I was prevaricating so bit the bulletin and have just ordered a sage green paperwhite. Will wait till it arrives before ordering some sort of case for it.
Many thanks for all your answers, definitely helped me focus my mind.

My sage green paperwhite arrived an hour ago and is currently charging. It’s rather lovely and I may not bother with a permanent cover, just one which I can slip it in for travelling.
I’m going to leave it till tomorrow to attempt to transfer the 886 books from my old one to this new one...is it difficult? Am I likely to cock it up and lose all my books??
As soon as you sign in to your Amazon account the books you bought from them will show on your new device.
Question Author
Great, Barry, I hope it’s that simple...
It is. You will have to tap on each book on your new device to actually download it but it takes seconds.

I back all my ebooks to my PC because I don't trust Amazon or Kobo or any other seller not to magic them away
Question Author
Barry, I have over 800 books on my kindle, I’ll be there hours doing that, isn’t there an easier way??
I can't see it being a problem, you are not going to read them all at once. Your books will show straight away on the new device and just tap as many as you like as fast as you like. The books will still show, downloaded or not.
Same as when you buy or borrow a new book.
