I was thinking of Ra characters from rather and ng from ungrateful, but because it said called, thought of rang. If the clue had said had called I would have put rung, so not sure now!

grammatically I think it should be rang. You would say he called me, he rang me, but he hasn't called me, he hasn't rung me so not sure now.
