Is There A God?

Last Saturday at 1.30pm I lost my father who was known on answerbank as Theland.
He was a devout Christian and a very good and moral human being . He always tried to instill Christian values and teachings in me which he succeeded in doing. However I still have my doubts about christainity. I am still struggling with the question of whether or not God exists and can human findings through science vindicate the truth in the Bible?

Honestly, only you can choose your faith, by following your heart. I have to be honest though, this probably isn't the right time to make such a choice. You've just suffered a devastating loss and such a event will rock the faith of the most dedicated theist. Take things slowly for now, and concentrate on your family. The time to think about your conflict of...

YoungTheland_1, my condolences sincerely, as to christianity erm
when i was a child and a teen, my mother and older sister used to go to church don't remember what branch, but not not catholic, does not matter anyway, thye tried to instill that stuff into me, had little effect as i did not like that devout lifestyle, specially the bit about going to hell and that god see's all, and for jc to rise from the dead like lazarus erm..no, bit like god sacrificed him self, to save us from himself.. oxymoron totally illogical, if you ever watched the walking dead series you get what i sort of mean, on the dead front, old testiment new testiment mmm go had a change of heart, although i never believed any of it, i have lived my life as best as a human being as i can, to my family and friends and everyone i meet along lifes path...

My mother was a christian and had a very strong faith which never waivered, whatever life threw at her and did she have a tough life! More i portantly to my sister and me, and to everyone who came into contact with her, she was a fabulous lady. She went out of her way to help those in need in any way she could (apart from financially) offering support and friendship. That's my idea of a christian. She firmly believed she would meet up with her parents when she died, they both left this world when she was very young, and indeed, she was convinced they came to her in her times of need. She nearly died three times and said they were with her, one either side. I know many, many people see this all as rubbish but it mafe my mother the wonderful human being she was. I also know there are many people who do not follow a religion who are great people. I think what I'm trying to say is that when it comes to life you do not have to follow a religion to be a great person but if you are devout be happy in your position and be at peace with yourself.
I appreciate the answers you have given me. It's quite difficult because I am fully aware of the short comings of the bible and the parts which are illogical and immoral. The difficulty comes from the life lessons I got from my parents and how they derived those lessons from biblical scripture.
Before my dad died he told me to always put God first and I cannot go wrong in life. Without being what you would call 'devout' I guess I will try to do that.
