Moving house - god idea or not?
13 Answers
Hi Guys - we have the chance to move from a quiet country village to a very busy town in another county.I have seen the house, the area, and even though I have said yes(nothing has been signed) and my partner is keen to go,I still cannot weigh up what is best for us as a family.A million things are going through my mind such as uprooting my son from school which he loves,to the chance of a fresh start.Have any of you had to do this and how did you make your decision ?

I would rather bring my children up in a village than a busy town anytime, it really depends on the reputation of the town, where in town you will be situated will you be on a route to and from a pub (can get a lot of noise and trouble with drunks if you are) you will need to find out about the schools etc.
A village will always be a safer environment but I'm sure they will survive quite happily on the edge of a town.
Good luck either way!!

Im just in such a muddle - I have no family here whatsoever, just the stress of ex,partners ex etc,yet if we move we will be just 4 miles from b/f's parents and brother, who are totally fantastic and supportive.
Yet we will have a much smaller garden,no scenic views.Oh,I just don't know what to do - I go from yes to no 10 times a day!

I have just done the opposite and moved from a busy town to a quite village and I love it...Mrs Elvis loves it..and best of all the kids love it...their old school had around 30 plus kids per class and around 400 in all, whereas the new school has about 15 kids per class, and about 60 in all.
We only moved about 15 miles but it is so much better here and I would never move back,
Oh... and we made our decision when we first viewed this property, and it`s the best decision I`ve ever made...apart from marrying the wife that is...lol
Good luck whatever you decide

Personally I think that change is good. Especially if you feel you need a fresh start.
If your kids are young then theyll adapt fairly easily, but you will both need to make an extra effort in helping your kids settle and make new friends. Also, if your partner is still keen in setting up a new business venture then a busier town will offer more opportunities. But on the down side, you will miss the picturesque village life.

Also, you should check out the Ofsted report for the new school which you can find online.
My kids old school report read...
Over one third of the pupils are eligible for free school meals, twice the national average. Two thirds of pupils come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, the largest groups being Turkish and Black African. A much larger number of pupils are learning English as a second language than in most schools. A significant number of pupils are refugees or asylum seekers. The proportion of pupils with learning dificulties is above average.
After reading that I knew it was time for a change

I don't know sweetheart... personally, cause I actually know where you're moving to I'd be inclined to say a) get your butt here now :0) but also b) Like Cas I'd most likely move to get away from town... (she says thinking about moving back to London).
No one can answer this quesion for you babes, you know that but to try and get your head in less of a muddle, why don't you do a pros and cons list.
And remember, moving is supposed to be the next most stressful thing after berevement so you're bound to feel in two minds.
Give me a shout if you need to talk xx

Hi 4getmenot - I just dont know what to do hun.
China - lol,yes I know you know - you will just have to come round and get me used to the busy life again should It go through!
Have just read the Ofsted reports for both schools and very suprisingly the much much bigger school in town has a far better report than the village school - I am amazed to be honest.

Hi Pink,
I have been in this situation, but ours was the othere way round, We moved from London to North Wales,I couldn't settle, I stuck it for 6 months,we moved from North Wales to just outside London, the moment I walked into the new house,I thought, what have I done, it took 4 yeatrs before I could afford to move again, back to North Wales, I have now been here 26 years,it was the best move I ever made,I would never move back to a town, but at the end of the day
if it is the best move for all of you, give it a go,the list will help, good luck pinkie, hard decision, hope you make the right one, Ray xx
