Why Do They Do It?

i was introduced to the new young star at work today, i think he's probably late 20s.
he's kind of our boss and informed us "if you have any problems you can come to myself" and then " it's will be nice getting to know yourselves"

Is this some young person way of talking? What's wrong we "me" and "you" in the sentences above?? At the very least they're both 1 fewer syllable to say each time!

If language remained stagnant you would all be talking in Middle English! It may sound alien and annoying to the older ear but things move on.

To a certain extent APG, but the last time I saw my grandson (11) I was completely unable to understand him. We had to explain that whilst everyone can use one sort of language to communicate with friends, we all need to know, understand and be able to use a common code of English. Without that there is no understanding. He did start using normal language after that. I think he was showing off how 'with it' - if that's the expression these days - he is.

It had become a problem before I retired from teaching.

Whilst it may not be common parlance, I see nothing in Bednobs OP that would lead me to ask what the young man meant.

Neither do I mamya - but I am being very honest when I say that I simply could not understand my grandson. If this is general amongst youngsters then it would present huge problems. Personally I think and hope that the fact that more people speak reasonably standard English will pressure them into conformity! :)

Over the years I've found that nodding when the new guy spraffs then getting on with the job as usual works out fine.

They do tend to flit from job to job, these bright young things.
Maybe it's all just crap waiting to be actioned rather than a better way.

Sounds like quite a few ( not long out of uni ) operation managers that I have come across in the last 10 years or so ( they always seem to move on ).
