The Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling stating Cornerstone (North East) Adoption and Fostering Service must change its recruitment policy.//

Odd one. The court said it is fine for Cornerstone to restrict its recruitment of carers to followers of the evangelical Christian faith but cannot discriminate against gays. Would gay people be part of the evangelical Christian faith which, on the whole, welcomes gays as long as they abstain from sex?
Odd right enough.

Yes, because failure to do so puts them at odds with the law.

If they are unable to reconcile their beliefs with conforming to legal requirements, maybe they need to explore other avenues of income.
Definitely. Religious beliefs, or any beliefs, shouldn't come above the law.
