wrong key symbols

hi,my sister as just brought a lap top,her first computer.
the problem she is having with it is that when she type s certain key s they produce a different symbol,any ideas

Its the language setting, go on the start menu, click control panel, then regional and language settings, click the language tab, then click details and finally in the drop down menu change it to 'english-uk' instead of 'english-us'.

The number lock may be on. This will make certain keys type numbers instead of letters - usually the JKLUIO.

To turn the number lock on and off I have to press FN the function key) and F11 together.
