Song Title and Artist Name

I am trying to find out what the title to a song is. It was about 2001 played on the radio, it sounded like a 50's tune. The lyrics talk about a guy going to pick up his girlfriend for prom I think. Then as they are passing over the bridge they get in a car accident and he sits in the rain with her while she dies. I believe, I haven't heard it in years. Can anyone help me with this?
