how easy would it be to change a cam belt on an 96 astra ecotec 1.6 engine, would i need 2 buy a kit of some description??

very easy. buy yourself the haynes manual & just take your time.
It is a good idea to change the tensioner/idler pulleys at the same time. They were never brilliant on the Ecotec so i would say definitly change them. Your local motor factor should sell a kit which includes belt and tensioners for a resonalbe price. If you let me know whre you are i could advise of a reputable factor to use.

GSF Car Parts are pretty good in that area. Ive not had too many problems with them. 0121 626 7970.
