I know this has been discussed before, but why do some people not acknowledge answers given to their q's?

I actually posed this question myself sometime back, but I later came to realise that I was just looking for ego-massaging and I now take the view that if I can post an answer that helps somebody that is its own reward. If they don't answer for any reason, and there are many - they may find the answer elsewhere and not bother coming back, they may not want to login again - well, so what? It won't stop me posting answers if I know them, and on the occasions when somebody does answer it's just a bonus. (can't say I'm bothered about the stupid star system though)

It's not for the' Oh, look how clever I am!', it's more to do with the spending time researching for answers when they may well not need an answer any more. You could then be using that time to answer someone elses question.
I take that point, but usually if I answer it's because either I already know the answer or am interested in the answer myself. And I wouldn't spend much time on a topic I'm not interested in, so I don't see it as wasted time. I do agree it's nice to get a reply and know that your answer was of help, but I can't see the point in getting upset when you don't. Careful though - this is turning into a disscussion...
I think my reply the last time was that I don't rate answers when I am looking for a discussion but if I am looking for factual info then I will acknowledge in some form......The reason I don't rate debate type questions is so that I don't give any hint of bias to one side of the arguement or other...plus the fact I would have been busy a while back giving stars to nearly 1,800 answers.

Thank you both for your answers. I agree sft42 on your factual or discussion answers theory, but as discussions are discouraged now, then maybe the *** system may be the only way of acknowledging an answer now. Anyway, it doesn't upset me, I just think it's nice to thank people!
I have to agree with coggles in every way. It's a pleasure to help people find answers to their questions (not too difficult ones that is!!), it's certainly not for any ego trip, but it really would be nice if more people said 'Thank you' in any shape or form. When they do then it's really been worth the effort, if they don't it's a bit disheartening but you still carry on regardless.

Thank you Cetti, I am glad I am not the only one who thinks the same way!!!!!!
Yes this question has popped up before! My answer was that I prefer to wait until I have received adequate replies & then thank everyone at the end, before clicking the 'no more replies' box. So keep watching out for a big thank you from me!

Smudge - 'a big thank you' from me!
The *** rating systems is reminiscent of decadent bourgeois revisionism and individualistic careerism. I prefer to let the answer stand on its own merit, to be judged by the democracy of the readers as a whole, not by the idiosyncratic ego of the questioner.
If your that bothered about not being thanked then don't bother answering the question! This is Answerbank, not Thankyoubank.

As much as I'd like to not answer the last 2 comments, I will. As I said, it doesn't bother me to the point of wanting to jump off a cliff, I just think that if you have put a lot of effort into an answer, it's nice to get some feedback - even if it's to disagree. There's no need to get wound up about it, I'm not!
Quizmonster never moans.
I wouldn't buy one too many people I know have been ripped off. Did you know they're known as "scalpers" in the US?
I never reply as I don't know how to. I do want to though. how do I do this? I did it once by accident, but don't remember what I pressed.
just figured it out. I know how to do it on my laptop just not my phone (in reference to my last post on this question)
