I know this has been discussed before, but why do some people not acknowledge answers given to their q's?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I actually posed this question myself sometime back, but I later came to realise that I was just looking for ego-massaging and I now take the view that if I can post an answer that helps somebody that is its own reward. If they don't answer for any reason, and there are many - they may find the answer elsewhere and not bother coming back, they may not want to login again - well, so what? It won't stop me posting answers if I know them, and on the occasions when somebody does answer it's just a bonus. (can't say I'm bothered about the stupid star system though)
I take that point, but usually if I answer it's because either I already know the answer or am interested in the answer myself. And I wouldn't spend much time on a topic I'm not interested in, so I don't see it as wasted time. I do agree it's nice to get a reply and know that your answer was of help, but I can't see the point in getting upset when you don't. Careful though - this is turning into a disscussion...
I think my reply the last time was that I don't rate answers when I am looking for a discussion but if I am looking for factual info then I will acknowledge in some form......The reason I don't rate debate type questions is so that I don't give any hint of bias to one side of the arguement or other...plus the fact I would have been busy a while back giving stars to nearly 1,800 answers.
I have to agree with coggles in every way. It's a pleasure to help people find answers to their questions (not too difficult ones that is!!), it's certainly not for any ego trip, but it really would be nice if more people said 'Thank you' in any shape or form. When they do then it's really been worth the effort, if they don't it's a bit disheartening but you still carry on regardless.
As much as I'd like to not answer the last 2 comments, I will. As I said, it doesn't bother me to the point of wanting to jump off a cliff, I just think that if you have put a lot of effort into an answer, it's nice to get some feedback - even if it's to disagree. There's no need to get wound up about it, I'm not!
