Transporting fish

Any ideas where i can find out about how to transport expensive fish 100 miles? You can imagine how nervous i am about this.
Any tips even on good websites or books will be appreciated....

How many?
Plastic bags in boxes is generally,how its done.
Stop feeding for a week before hand,put more air (ideally oxygen)than water in the bag,enough water to cover fish is sufficient.
I have moved a fish from my pond in Birmingham,to Manchester with no probs....good luck

Are they tropicals? If so you'll need to make sure they're kept warm. Most aquariums will let you have the big polystyrene boxes that their fish arrive in.

I know somebody who transported his fish in a large plastic dustbin (with an airspace between the lid) and planned his journey at night so that there would be a minimum amount of traffic disruption and stop/start driving, to reduce the amount of buffeting the water received.
As far as I know, all his fish survived the ordeal.

We transported a koi in a large washing basket in the back of our car with the two kids some years back. It wasn't a long journey and he survived but the car was a bit wet.

For medium to small fish, i use a cool box which will of course keep things warm as well. You should have no problems doing this.....don't forget that tropical fish usually have to be flewn in from the tropics
