Hello again all.

If someone has a salary of £20,800 per annum currently and it will increase to £22,000 what is the percentage of the increase?

As you all already know my maths is awful - so hence my question

divide 22,000 by 20,800 and the bit after 1 is the increase percentage.

No, the increase is 22000-20800 = 1200

The percentage increase is 1200/22000 x 100 = 5.45%

1200/20800 x 100 = 5.769........

bhg; CaC is right; I think you did your sum wrong. I worked it out your way and it came to 5.77%. CaC's method is simpler and gives the right answer of 5.77%

Sorry, I did it teacher's way and it came out to 5.77%, which is the correct answer.

the originl salary is 20800 the new salary is 22000, that's an incread of 1200 so the percentage is 1200/20800*100 = 5.77%

yeah it is a sweat to remember which number to put it on 22000 or 20800

for marketing: the diff on 20800 is mark-up
and the diff on 22000 is profit - took me years to learn that

CAC: divide 22,000 by 20,800 and the bit after 1 is the increase percentage. that gives 1.0577 you need to subtract 1 and multiply by 100 but it does give the answer if you can pick it out.

Yes, a mistype on my part. It's increase/original x 100, so 1200/20800 x 100

( subtracting the larger number from the smaller is easy)
