My lovely Mum has auburn hair all her life, she didn't want to go grey, so she had it coloured at her hairdresser's every six weeks I think it was. She passed at 85 with a lovely head of auburn hair, her pride and joy. Maybe a hairdresser could do this for you ?
I used to have highlights in my mousy brown hair for years. My hairdresser suggested I didn't need them any longer as I had gone silver. I let everything grow out. I have a wonderful head of silver hair. I occasionally get a dark root showing through. I use a spray from Mane and use the colour grey to spray over the roots when I wash it. I am really pleased with my hair now. But it is very confusing for someone behind me when they catch up with my almost 79 year old face!!
Yes embrace your grey or have blonde highlights …. Mine merge in with the grey, I have two or three different tones put through my hair and they look quite natural. But it will cost you, if you want it done properly.
Red hair doesn't seem to go grey early. My mum is 74, and has pulled out a few grey hairs, but that's all.
My sister dyes hers purple, which lasts at least 6 weeks.
I agree with others, make the most of grey. It looks great.
Pink is good too :-). Silver is also lovely.
Genuinely, I have never understood the aim to look "younger", as if that is somehow better... in any case, what colour suits you most, will be as close to natural as possible.
I have always been blonde apart from an abberation when I was in my late teens and went a gingery red - till my friends started calling me Alan Ball! Then just let it stay blond but I am now a very pale shade of almost white. Yet people think I colour it to get that colour!
I’d never ever aim to look younger because that goes against the tide, I tend to suit skinny jeans as I’ve got long legs but there’s some things I would never wear now, for example the skinny leather look pants are in,,,, that’s a no go for me
Lankeela, people say the same to me. Mine started off red and got more and more blonde streaks, same as my mum and aunt.
If and when it starts going grey, it just will...:-)
Bobbi, I also don't dress the same as I did as a teenager. Different priorities, work, lifestyle etc. But, I still have that streak slightly, if I go out :-)
Now 72, I gave up about 3 years ago - colouring it became too onerous and I wasn't rich enough to ask a hairdresser to do it. My hairdresser was also encouraging and told me that because I had had a bit of red in my hair it should go silver. Eventually she was proved right. My hair is not far off the colour my daughter achieves with a very expensive silver/grey colour every few months. Just go natural and accept it.
You will find that you gradually need to change your wardrobe to suit new look and colour. Hope this helps. :)
My hair is dark, I dyed it black as a kid and have continued to do so, now I’m 40 and I’m dying it every other week. When the grey hair comes through, my face looks awful. So I am sick of having to dye it. I just want an easy way out, unfortunately that won’t happen. Light hair doesn’t suit my colouring, I have tanned skin x
