I have Windows XP. I use the Internet daily. Every day I get a message telling me there are updates to be installed. Is this normal?

If you right-click My Computer and click properties, then choose the Automatic Updates tab, you can check the settings you are using for the updates.
No -its not. I had a problem with this. It kept trying to install an update that had already been installed - every time I went on the internet. Look at the installation history and see if the same update has been installed each time. I'm at work and I can't remember which one it was. I spoke to them about it and they said this was a known problem. They took me through a complicated rigmarole which did nothing to prevent the problem. In the end I went to the automatic updates tab and clicked the one that said to notify me before downloading updates (as opposed to downloading and then notifying that they are ready for installation). Since then it has not tried to download the update that I had previously installed 15 times, but it has notified me about new updates I needed. Seems to have worked, but I have no idea why!
