Horrendous Pain In Left Ankle.
8 Answers
I don't know of any reason for it. Very swollen. So bad sometimes when I stand up even with a walking stick I don't know how to walk. Had it for about 4 days now.
Had to use my mobility scooter today to go with other half to Bristol to get his implant recharged.
I don't know what to do re pain. I went on line to find possible causes. Frightened the life out of me, could be heart, kidney or lungs.
Think I had better phone doctors tomorrow.

A single swollen ankle, with accompanying pain, is far more likely to be the result of a physical injury. (I'm assuming that you've not got hot, swollen skin, which would suggest an infection). It's surprisingly easy to sprain an ankle, or even to break it, without noticing it at the time but only later.
If your skin is hot and swollen (suggesting cellulitis), call 111 for advice, as you might need some antibiotics fairly urgently. Similarly, if you're running a temperature, call 111. Otherwise follow the advice here (which won't do any harm anyway), take some painkillers and see if the problem eases. If not, contact your GP.

PS: Arthritis is, of course, another possible cause.

It might be best to contact your GP (using the eConsult form, if that system is used by your surgery) anyway, just to find out what's really going on.

A good suggestion, Patsy:
