Hi SB ...there's already a fair size thread on this. Sunny dave?
Alarm bells going off in Germany, and they are well below the UK.
Now Austria 11,000 cases today, we are 50,000 plus.
Our cases are fluctuating: theirs by all accounts are rising sharply.
Having said that I think this is barking mad
Own goal gromit Austria population is about one sixth of ours so there rate per head is far higher. But case rates are less important if vax rates are high. And its the growth trend plus hospital cases and deaths that mater most
Quite apart from anything else, how are the “unvaccinated” going to get vaccinated if they can’t leave home :-)
Seriously, this simply won’t work: it might do in N Korea or Belarus, but hardly in Austria
It's a tough one. Should stupid people be allowed to do stupid stuff willy nilly, to or forced to do something else.

Deaths Austria yesterday 24
Deaths UK yesterday 262
Covid rate in the UK: 50 per 100,000
Covid rate in Austria 800 per 100,000
I can see that the thinking is that with 35% unvaccinated (it’s 65% in Russia) then they have a mini country there which beds protecting from itself.
I just doubt if it will work. And it’s only for 10 days, do they say
Yes Gromit cherry picks the worst days for UK.
Firstly our test rate is the highest in Europe - 37 per 1000.
The more you test, the more will be discovered.
Second the lockdown does not stop you going to supermarkets, chemists, newsagents, post offices or doctors' appointments.
It refers to restaurants, cinemas, theatres and stores for goods not absolutely necessary for daily life (electronic goods, clothing, leather goods, etc.)
It actually doesn’t prevent you going to work (!)
But does prevent you leaving the house as our lockdown did.
Not trivial therefore at all.
