Washing Machine Is Jammed

I recently inherited an Indesit washing machine which had been working perfectly. After moving on about the third wash the program jammed half way and kept turning the drum on and off indefinitely. It's unlikely to be a circuit board as the next few times it was fine but it's doing it again now. It also will not respond to any changes on the programmer once it's got stuck so any position the wheel is turned is not responded to. Is there any likely cause and solution to this?

Yes, just have. Either a chip (terminal, unlikely as intermittent) or a drainage problem. I'll try it with the drain in the sink tomorrow. It's some age and just been transported here plus up a staircase so may have taken a bang.
Check the filter - cleaning the filter fixes a multitude of problems.

To update I switch the programme off after a reasonable time to be washed and rinse, then put spin on to dry it and that ends itself. Not perfect but got my clothes clean most of the time until I have to invest in a new one.
