I presume most commenting on here about 'the good old days' are white Caucasians who have never endured any form of racism in their cosy little lives. (Apologies to any Irish, who were treated like 'Blacks in the 1950's)
Thankfully things HAVE moved on, and it's no longer acceptable to say certain things or describe people in certain ways. I was watching some programme about TV in the 1970's and was genuinely shocked at what you could get away with in those days.
I'm not the 'woke-st' person in the world, and agree PC is now verging on the ridiculous in some areas, but hey, things were a lot worse for certain sectors of society 50 years ago, and I, for one, am happy it's not acceptable to say you are going to the 'P' shop or going for a 'Chinky'.
