Does anyone know if 'phone numbers are re-used? Ive just got a new account/new number with BT. Im ex-directory and have so far only given the new number to about 6 people. Earlier this evening I've had a couple of very nasty threatening phonecalls from a man telling me not to call his girlfriend again and that if I did he would murder me!!! nice I know. Obviously I haven't a clue what its about and wondered if it could be a case of me having someone's old number. If they don't re-use them I guess I'll have to put it down to some loon ringing random numbers.
The old numbers are reused but only after being inactive for quite a length of time (something like a year I was told). I can only suggest that you get in touch with BT and tell them about the nasty threatening calls from the potential murderer. What lovely people live on this planet eh ?
I moved house last year and I remember the first time I phoned for a taxi only for the taxi operator to screech at me that I was barred from their firm and that she couldn't believe that I had the brass neck to call them. I tried to protest my innocence but she wasn't for having it and said that my number was coming up automatically on screen as barred for assaulting a driver when drunk and having hurled abuse at other drivers in the past. I explained that I had only been in the house a few days and she checked my address. It didn't match the tel no and she soon became very apologetic. I also had a few nasty and silent calls so it just goes to show you that you just never know what number you are getting and how it can so easily land you in hot water for nothing.
I had my number changed free of charge and haven't had any bother since ......... touch wood ! I agree with Jugglering about getting in touch with BT regarding those calls.
sorry to gatecrash your question, gary, but ...oldwoman, does your name reflect your true age and gender? I just loved your answer, and it's somehow even better if you really are a lady of more advanced years - I wish I could come up with answers like that!
not really the same but my brother answered the phone to a call centre the other day, they asked for my dad (Mr B for the purpose of this) and my brother said "Can I ask whos speakin" they carried on askin for my dad and my brother said "Ill pass you over to my dad but can i ask whos speaking first they said "ah, Mr B," my brother interrupted saying "I havent passed you over yet" they said "Mr B passed away?" my brother hung up! made me laugh anyway!
We had to change our number due to some weird calls we received, we are now plagued by people looking for Mr Jarvis, so if Mr Jarvis is reading get it sorted now!!! if you are dead, sorry for the interruption.
