I have been constantly harassed by Scottish Power for payment for a bill. I have NEVER had my energy supplied by SP - I return to sender all the bills marking the outside and I have just now tweeted OFGEM - their website is useless- has anyone any tips how I can get this intimidation to end?

Ring them, free, on 0800 027 0072 and make sure you get the name of the person you speak to. Keep doing it till you get something in writing.
Write to a newspaper - their problem/money pages often manage to resolve such issues when us ordinary folk are struggling.
well you have to find out why they think you owe them and deal with that.
Is your full correct name and full correct address on these bills?
Do the bills have the correct meter readings on them?
If so, it's difficult to understand how that has happened without a valid account. Ask them to explain.
You had the same problem but with SSE this time last year. How did that get resolved. Are you sure you're not with one of these companies like Uswitch who move you around from company to company for power?
...And best of luck resolving the matter...Scottish Power came 24th out of 25 energy companies in a recent Which? comparison report..."hopeless at dealing with complaints".
The only energy company that gets a Which? Recommended Supplier award is Octopus energy>
It took me months, a lot of stress and Ofgem to sort out this company's mess last year. Good luck
By the way, this won't end if you keep sending the bills back if they are addressed to you.

Purdue - no it’s the same problem - there is absolutely no reason for them to think they are providing my energy - I have been with BG since I moved into this flat in 2017 and before that it was my mothers flat who was also with BG
^barry, my thoughts exactly...might as well stick them in a drawer!
Just how long has this been going on? How many bills and how much do they claim you owe?

and follow their procedure !

if you are not opening the letters then you dont know they are harassing you!

not me - - - on the outside is NOT the way to tell them you have never had an account with them

they think you might owe some money ( they dont just make this sort of thing up as a saturday afternoon filler) and they deserve a written - "no I dont" or "show me I do!"

a judge said a propos to a tenant of mine - asking for the payment of a debt is NOT harassment

so follow the complaints algorithm - if you take it any further it is an inevitable question - and the answer must be 'yes'

Your letter I need hardly say
must not be one long screeeeeeam, with long sentences and embedded comments like ' you greedy bustards' (*)
nit a logical sequence
1. I have always been a customer of wundagas 1963-now
2. on 1 1 2012 I received.... blah de blah the usual

Might be worth sending them a copy of one of your British Gas bills, or asking British gas for written evidence of how long you have been with them, also evidence of how long you have lived at your current address so you can prove you haven't been with them. They won't just take your word for it.

In terms of proving BG - ness - a copy of the payments howsoever made should suffice

I pay by cheque and keep scans - which the complaints lady at BG Karen McClintock ( gods sake that isn't her real name) doesnt like at all, and she almost has a permanent armchair in my ( warm ) living room - listening to me and ignoring me moan
