I have a bad relationship with my parents and it is ruining my life. I tried cutting them out of my life altogether, but I only suffered tremendous guilt. So I have to be in contact with them no less than once a week (or things become strained). However, I can not bear this weekly contact as it usually results in me feeling terrible. I need to find a way of not being affected by what they say to me, of shrugging it off. I have tried SO hard and now know I need help. But what help can I get? I am not unemployed, but I am very low on money.

You could try and ask your GP to refer you for counselling. Some surgeries have a counsellor who visits (say) once a week. After a few sessions you should have a clearer idea of where to go from here. Alternatively you may be able to find a counsellor who does not charge much because they have recently qualified. I knew someone who studied counselling at the Metanoia Institute somewhere in West London (England). You could try them.
I agree with vittoria You don't say how old you are but you must seek professional advice rather than internet advice. As the answer above says, please seek advice from your GP. Good Luck NS
I agree with the previous two answers- contact your GP. The westminster pastoral foundation offer reduced rate counselling and therapy.
Hi NaughtySquid, whatever you do & wherever you go to seek help, I hope things improve for you in the future. Chin up!
Go to an al anon meeting. The numbers are in the phone book or web. It is group for people who are relatives of alcoholics. No one in my family drinks but what you are talking about sounds like an alcoholic family. They dont have to drink for you to benefit. The group helps you live your life and be true to yourself without trying to please others or control others. Some parents are shitty, thats how they learned cause their parents were shitty. Dont feel guilty about it, its not your doing. you didnt cause it nor did you control it. Seek help, I reccommend these al anon meetings and put more energy INTO YOU not them. Remember its YOUR LIFE and no body elses. And your life is the best think you got going for you.
