Right we all know that one but I was taught years ago I can't remember when that it's then "red sky in the morning......Sailors warning" - but almost every time I hear it , it's said as Shepard's warning. What is correct?

we say shepherd's in the bednobs' household
I was told it depends on where you live, near the coast and it’s ‘sailor’s’ but inland it’s ‘shepherd’s’.
Global warning brining the two closer then :-)
*bringing*
Is it not shepherds or sailors for both rather than the combination?
Simply a Biblical weather forecast.

Red sky at night, light of shorter wavelengths is being dissipated by water vapour and atmospheric dust.

Red sky in the morning, same.
If it is a volcano in the middle of the Ocean that is polluting the upper atmosphere it is "Sailor's" warning or ... even delight. It the volcano is based inland then it is the Shepherds who need to start the lament or the rejoicing. We currently have both, so both versions are correct.
Red sky in the morning
Shepherds warning
Red sky at night
Shepherds delight.
That Biblical text mentions neither shepherds nor sailors.
Exactly, we have simply adappted it as we've gone along.

Same advice would do for any outdoor profession or trade.
anybody know that if seagulls are flying over residential areas - it will be bucketing next day. very true. a friend of mine never heard of it.

//anybody know that if seagulls are flying over residential areas - it will be bucketing next day.//

Or you are living next door to the council tip. :))
Red sky at night, shepherd's delight,
Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning.
Yeah, but what if the seagulls are following the trawlers?
Has Cantona moved nearby?
no I live in a posh area - did used to live in the inner city over 30 years ago.
