Ever willing to add another school day to my knowledge, I have searched both of the following terms but cannot find them (other than in AB references).

cod-concience: [sic]?

see post @ 14:00

cod-American:

see OP

Can anyone enlighten me please?

cod means fake
I grew op using 'Cod' as mock/pretend/pseudo, did wonder if it was more common in t'North.
apparently *a* cod, meaning a joke or a leg-pull, is originally an Irish usage, according to the slang dictionary.
Wiktionary is often a good browse for this type of enquiry.

Ah so.
lynne, that link literally gave me the run around from Atlantic cod to cod American :) I can now understand bednobs' usage but t'other baffles me still, no news there then...

I knew the Irish usage.
I've always known it to mean imitation, fake, or phoney, but without a deliberate attempt to make anyone bieve it was the real thing.

For example, the middle section of Bohemian Rhapsody is cod opera.
Codology - foolish or untrue talk or writing; nonsense.
Load of Codswallop
Cod is something I eat with chips. I've never heard it used in any other context ... although now you mention it I imagine it's where 'codswallop' comes from.
that's the way i meant it in my post (cod-American) pseudo, fake.
I am south BTW, so not a northern thing
It just means fake or kiddie-on.
It seems to be the latest lame talking trend. It's a bit like the "So" explosion that happened a few years ago.

"So, I was talking to a cod-Therapist the other day...."

lol cg. I think the hyphens have lead me up the wrong path, they are unnecessary.

So, I will hide them under a codpiece ;)
I see that wicktionary has the usage as both with or without a hyphen, so I'm not sure the hyphen is wrong. Also I'm not quite sure I'd call it a trend (lame or otherwise). I think maybe some people just have grown up with a wider vocabulary than others (or just different). In my example I suppose I could have written fake American but cod implies something extra although I'm not sure I could articulate EXACTLY what the extra nuance is
