Used to do it every weekend, although usually only about 200 to 300 mile round trip. Just remember a few things however:
- You can't drive all night as it's very knackering on British roads and 6 hours behind the wheel causes lots of problems. Also you're supposed to stop every 2 hours and with the motorway cameras, they can now tell.
- Make sure your credit card is working well as it'll cost you a small fortune in fuel.
- Make sure you've got RAC or AA cover as I'm guessing you're not driving the newest of cars, especially with new driver insurance.
- Watch out at night as the drink drivers inhabit the motorways along with the people finding out if their car really will do 120mph as it says in the book.
If I were you, I'd make sure you've got night time driving experience around an area you know, and motorway experience on a Sunday when the roads are a bit quieter. Motorways have a whole new set of rules which unfortunately they don't always teach you about, and they will save your insurance.
Finally [Trev turns into boring git mode] - cars may give you freedom, but with freedom comes a lot of responsibility ideally not to kill anyone else. ;-)
