We used to go out to our local and queue to get in we’d all take something for the buffet table, everyone knew each other so it was like one big happy family , the juke box would be blasting out and we’d have a great party, Now? It’s pjs and dressing gown, a take away ( table set) a glass or two of wine , some recorded TV stuff and probably bed by 10-30 for me while Mr B watches Jools, if there’s any fireworks, I never hear them

Dave and I were ill for our first here and then Covid arrived.
Rarely in bed before midnight so we'll watch a bit of Alba....the BBC Alba, not the mad woman on here and drink wine and a drop of Poitín.
There may be a firework or two if there are any visitors from the north mad enough to sneak some in. They're banned here. Fireworks....not visitors from the north. The guard's close by so it'll be light the blue touch paper and retire.....quickly and far away.
Happy 2022 all....x

Strange thing to have a childhood memory awakened. Mally and Naomi mentioned the ships hooters being blown at midnight. In Stoke the pits, potbanks, Shelton Bar Steelworks, and steam train workers who were on shift all used to blow their whistles and hooters. It will never be heard again. A lot of the pitmen would not go down on New Years Day but the steam winders and shunting trains were kept steamed up.
