The fact is that any spread of infection caused by activities during the Christmas/New Year period has now taken place. Large numbers of people took their own decisions about mixing - the event I attended had seen about 60% cancellations, many of them following the blood curdling announcements in early December. It left the event on a knife edge of entire cancellation.
There simply is no point in bolting this particular stable door - as indeed there never is once the horse has bolted.
