Seeing how Judy Garland was a superb singer why couldn't they have found someone else who could sing as well... Rene just didn't come across as real. I watched Judy Garland in A Star is Born the other day and that is a brilliant film.
I watched Judy and was a bit disappointed as I felt it didn't tell us enough about her life, her husbands etc.
I also watched Judy Garland in A Star is Born when it was on quite a while ago now and I seem to remember there were a lot of stills? in the film, can't remember the reason for it so that spoilt it for me.
Watched A Star is Born with Lady Gaga and although I thought she was good, I didn't like Bradley Cooper because I wanted him to smarten up and do something with his unruly hair.

Thought she looked quite like her, but sounded nothing like her - quite a failing for a film about someone with such a distinctive voice. Written by Tom 'Vigil' Edge. The scene where she went to the home of the two 'stage door johnnies' was preposterous.
As I said on another thread, enjoyed the new version of A Star Is Born (not the sort of film I'd normally have watched) - and Lady Gaga really can sing!

This was Judy at the end of her career, when her long-term illnesses and addictions had taken their toll on her voice and her body.
If you look at the reviews of her London concerts, you'll find that the film was pretty faithful to the response she received.
I though RZ was wonderful in the part of Judy and even if some liberties were taken with the time-line of her husbands, etc. it didn't detract from the tragedy of a life that was only 47 years long.
