Is It Alright For Your Gas Meter To Be Submerged In Water?
29 Answers
I had to take a reading from my gas meter which is situated below ground level in my garden. When I lifted the lid it was filled with water almost to the top. I had to get a jug and empty it to below the strap line where the actual reading is and even then it was difficult to read because of the condensation inside of the glass. Is it OK for it to be like this? Is anybody else's on here the same?

The property was built in 2008 whistonian. For the upper floor flats there is a trench for their gas meters at about the same level as mine (not flooded) but for those of us with gardens the meter is set into the ground. I will ask other GF residents if they have the same problem but like me they may not have looked at their meter for a year!
Eddie the meter is inside a box and when I lift then lid of the box the water was within an inch of the top so meter totally submerged. Sorry if I was unclear.
Thank you again everyone. X

My gas meter is semi- submerged in the ground as I live in a mobile home. I have lost 4 gas meters now due to water ingress into the meter unit. The most recent was this Friday 14 Jan 2022 - had to be replaced as there was water inside the meter itself - condensation from the box that seems to be able to find its way in through the card hole which then drowns it even though I have tried alsorts of ways to try and keep it dry. The design is useless and needs to be reassessed as calling SSE out every time is a real challenge - they won’t come out until you go off supply if you have credit on it even though it says “Call help”. It’s a real pain in the *** !!!
