Bono appears, leans into the mike and begins to clap slowly - a minute and a half and then he speaks into the mike, "Every time I clap, a youngster in Africa dies of AIDs or starvation. We really need to do something and straight away."
A Weegie voice from the 4th row or thereabouts, "Wer, stapp feckin'' clappin then."

Easy to be cynical about U2 but I remember putting The Joshua Tree on during a long drive with an old boy who didn't know them, back in the late eighties, and the first three tracks were:
1) Where the Streets Have No Name
2) I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
3) With or Without You
During the third track he said "Is this a greatest hits album?" and was amazed to discover that, no, it was just their latest release. Quite an album.
