Grandson Update
Some might remember over the last 10 months me asking for advice with my grandson who's now been living with us for 10 months due to parents not caring for him.
Things have dramatically changed, as in after months social services started to take my concerns seriously.
We had a conference meeting yesterday and although originally i thought the outcome was in our favour the more i think about it the more terrified ive become.
At the conference was myself, both parents, two social workers, a police officer, a health visitor, an independent person and the lady who spoke to us all.
To cut a very long story short.
My son stormed of half way through.
We all spoke of our evidence of concern for my grandson (he was physically harmed by my son)
During our process the original SW fed our son confidential information which resulted in her being fired.
This also led to a 3 month delay in our case.
The verdict from the conference was there was a serious concern toward our grandson, he would be put on a child protection plan.
We all had to vote from 1to10 how worried we were if our grandson went back to my sons care.
We all said 1, the police officer actually said zero.
However ive been told today that if my son asks for our grandson back we have to let him take him!
We've to ring SS immediately but it could take 48 hours for them to go check on our grandson!
Surely this can't be right.
They're assessing my son for his mental health, drug abuse.
They've seen serious proof of the harm he caused my grandson.
Is there anything else i can do?
Sorry if i don't make sense

I've tried a million different avenues, nspcc, barnardos.
The original SW , gave my son confidentiality information.
She actually asked my son if he'd caused the bruising on our grandson, he said no and case closed!
I wrote to the head of SS
She investigated, the SW was fired, we were given an apology and the case re opened.
Literally the only luck we've had on our side is both parents actually do not care for him and don't actually want him.
9 days in ten months we went without seeing our grandson (our son fell out with us so stopped us seeing him) so luckily he's with us most of the time.
Believe me im doing everything in my power to protect him.
I just can't believe that with the sw's fears, health cares fears, police fears and we still can't stop him if he wants our grandson back.
I've been to a solicitor and basically told we have no rights.
I was told by a high up SW a couple of weeks ago to apply for a SGO, we were absolutely so excited, she told us she'd back us.
The next day when i asked again if she'd back us up she said applying for an SGO would cause a lot of family conflict, i could tell she was backing out of what she said.

I have never been in a situation like this and really feel for you, Beaubb30. I think if it was me I would not hand over my grandson no matter what ... he would have to be ripped from my grasp by the authorities and handed over, and I would face the consequences of not giving him up willingly. I would also look up some similar cases like Baby P and prepared to cite them to whoever was taking my grandson from me, asking if they want another one on their hands.
In such cases they always say "Lessons will be learned" - let's see if they have been. You could even ask something like "What lessons have been learned from the Baby P case that are going to stop the same thing happening to my grandson?"

When our son took our grandson for those 9 days in October, we tried everything to stop him, even phoning the police.
We kept our grandson in the house and locked the door.
The police, knowing everything told us we had to hand our grandson over as dad as parental rights!
We lived 9 days in fear.
Every day asking our son how our grandson is to be replied with laughy face's
I honestly believe that the only reason SS reopened the case was because of that poor boy in Birmingham.
It's absolutely shocking.

I've thought of writing to the press, but the knock backs we've had from people we thought we could trust or would help as got us nowhere.
Our SW as just rang me saying she as information that my son as stolen money from his girlfriend's child could i give her any information on that! That is what they could do him for!
Unbelievable.
The SS are going out to asses that child today

I think you've done everything you can although you might be entitled to "exceptional legal aid" if you wouldn't normally qualify for legal aid - speak to this organisation for help in finding a solicitor
