Books With No "Peril"
19 Answers
can anyone recommend childrens books with no or not much peril in them?
my daughter doesnt like books very much and i recently discovered its due to the fact that she feels uncomfy when things go wrong for the protagonist. she doesnt usually read for pleasure, but recently finished 2X dick king smith "sophie" books in one day, so i'm looing for chapter books either in that vein or ones that are gentle

If she likes slightly more mature books, Diana Wynne-Jones is great (especially the Wizard Howl books) or Cressida Cowell's How to Train your Dragon Books, although both those two have an element of peril in the (all the best books do in my view).
It's a wee bit old fashioned, but maybe Joan G Robinson's When Marnie Was There could be a good shout. Very little danger, and the antagonists are.girls of a similar age to your daughter.

Let Professor Branestawm ride to the rescue! Norman Hunter's books are incredibly funny and ideal for 9-year-olds:
