For anyone who may have been following the saga of my several unsuccessful attempts to watch The Office and find something worth watching in it, having determined to try again I’ve re-visited the first few episodes….. and guess what? Eureka! By Jove I think she’s got it! I chuckled a lot and actually laughed out loud at one bit in particular - David Brent trying to get dates and using a picture of hunky Peter Andre as an image of himself.

Loving RG’s other offerings - Extras, Derek, and Afterlife, I don’t think I had my brain in RG mode for this one - so thanks for the encouragement. I’ve no doubt now that I shall enjoy the rest of the series.

Naomi - In a way, it's a shame you saw the Christmas Specials first, because the two series really do lead up to them.

For two series, Brent has tried, and failed, to be popular, and he has prostrated himself before deeply horrible people to gain their approval, especially the awful Chris Finch.

But finally, he finds someone who actually likes him, and he discovers that he can start to like himself, and that gives him the courage to kick back against the abuse he has taken, when it's aimed at someone he is starting to care about, a new experience for him.

A great payoff - hopefully you will now enjoy the two-series lead up to it.

Really glad you liked it, naomi :-). He really is so different in each part and in stand-up, I wouldn't be surprised for people to have different views on different ones.
Good for you for giving it another go, hope you enjoy the rest.

I don’t think watching it out of sequence will spoil it - despite already knowing how the Dawn/Tim saga goes. Knowing the little I know about the boyfriend, I was quite pleased about that.
