Gmail Doing Really Weird Thing- Any Suggestions Please?

Anyone Gmail Savvy can help me please? I recently helped someone I know set up a new Gmail account and used mine as a recovery. I now can't sign into my gmail account at all but can sign into theirs using my password. I've removed my email as the recovery mail from their account but it;s still doing the same thing. I can't access my own account at all but my Youtube channel etc is showing with their email address as belonging to them. how the hell can I get my account back? If I go to sign into my own account I put my email address in and password but when it signs me in i'm in their inbox but they have possession of my Youtube etc. Any help much appreciated as I cannot understand how this is happening. I tried it on chrome, explorer, various computers, I unremembered passwords, did all sorts of stuff and the bottom line now is her account is still in possession of my Youtube channel and google says it 'can't find my account', so basically to save aggro I've taken over hers for ease of using Youtube alone and started another email account because mine appears to have entirely vanished. I cannot see how any of that can have happened. REALLY unimpressed :( Thanks for your help though.
