An elderly friend informs me that she’s receiving funds from a organisation called GACS, to help her maintain her standard of living. The cash is brought to her door by her Agent, who helped her fill in her details. She is anxious for me to apply, but I think it’s got scam written all over it, no-one gives money away other than the Government . I asked if she’d given bank details and she said no, as it was delivered to her door. My worry is that this may go on for a while, then she’ll be asked if they can pay it into her bank, get it back plus any other cash from there, and she’ll be in trouble. She says that my name is on the list , but they could have used my name from her Face Book contacts, and I certainly won’t contact them. I’m just concerned she could land in trouble - has anyone heard of this? She lives in Darlington.l

Now you've given us the names of the organisation in full, rather than just an acronym, I've been able to google it (but, importantly, adding 'UK' onto the end of the search). It seems that there is such an organisation that helps the elderly but (a) it's actually a commercial home care company ; (b) it doesn't hand out cash ; and (c) it only operates in North Wales...

usual thing - if it is too good to be true it usually is
it seems unlikely to be that danny- that's in america.
is it a doorstep loan perhaps?
when I looked it was - head office illinois
GACS is an acronym and could stand for a few things, more information would be needed before assuming that it is the Guardian Angel Community Services.
hi mags, have you actually spoken by voice to your friend?
The use of cash, rather than paying money into a bank account, sets alarm bells ringing for me.

I suspect that it's the start of some sort of a loan shark operation. if you think that I might be right, contact these people

and/or Durham Constabulary (101 or 0345 606 0365)

Yes, Guardian Angel Services. My sister and I googled and it seems to suggest a scam. And no, I haven’t spoken to Wendy, if it’s a loan service she’s in trouble then. Yes, I read it as an American organisation, but how they contacted her I don’t know. At 82 (same as me) she’s very naive' while I consider I’m cautious, and never give my details to anyone, but I’m sure she will.

Apart from that company though, I can find nothing that matches the name you've given. The complete absence of a website, or even of a reference to the organisation on any other website, makes me even more certain that it's some sort of scam.
Think about having a chat with the local police if you can't persuade your friend to. They may be aware of similar activity or be able to help in some way.
I would be worried if a friend of mine told me about it happening to them.
Maybe you could pretend to be interested to more information to give to the police
Found this on google.

danny, that company operates in a small part of England and charges for its services, mainly live in carers. It certainly does not hand out cash willy nilly on the doorstep.
Ok. after all it seems that the GACS in the OP may very well be a scam.
Yes, I think so, danny. The company you linked to works down south whilst Mags friend live up north.
i think as mags hasnt actually spoken to her friend, its just a fb scam and the friend has been hacked and her contacts used
