Question About My Dishwasher

As some of you will know, I have treated myself to a table top dishwasher for the first time in my life.
I'm gradually getting used to it although I'm never sure if I'm stacking it properly as sometimes the mugs come out with water on them and not always clean but, the question I would like to ask is, once you start it up, can you stop it if you see you have forgotten to put something in it, or is it like a washing machine where you can't open it once it starts up? TIA.

I always said I would never have one until i tried one in a self catering apartment. Ordered one as soon as I got home and would hate to be without one now
Shortening the cycle won't save much electricity or water. Heating the water and drying are the parts of the programme that use most electricity.

All you are doing us shortening the time it flings the water around, and the amount of time the detergent has to do its work.

Well the oven shelf came out lovely except for a few burnt on stains and most of those came off with a cloth while it was still hot.
Why can't home dishwashers be made to work as quickly as commercial ones...the full cycle is only 2-3 minutes.
